The GRE is owned and managed by the Educational Testing Service (ETS). The GRE targets to assess quantitative reasoning, analytical writing, verbal reasoning, and critical thinking ability of the student that have been obtained over a long period of learning. The registration process may look a bit complicated, but once you understand the steps, it will become straightforward for you. This article will help you throughout the GRE registration process.
GRE Registration Instructions
Candidates can register for GRE online. But before the GRE registration, you must follow the instructions mentioned below:
You must follow the health needs procedure given by ETS if you have any health-related issues.
You must take the proper time to select your test centre and time. So that you can report your GRE scores before admission deadlines.
You must bring valid and acceptable identification proof to the test centre.
Your details must be filled in correctly during the GRE registration process
Make sure that your name matches with the name on your Identification document.
ID Requirements for GRE Registration
While signing up with the ETS account you are required to submit any valid Identification proof for the name used in the account. General guidelines about Identification requirements are as follows:
Only original documents are allowed. Photocopies of the document will not be allowed.
The valid documents must be used, expired documents will not be accepted.
The document must contain your full name.
The document must be government-issued identity proof.
Your photograph on the document must be clear and visible.
The document must also have your signature.
GRE Registration
Firstly, go to the GRE registration website and click on the option “Register Now”
Next you need to create an account as you are taking the test for the first time. So click on the option “create an account”
You will be taken to a page where you will need to fill in your personal information such as name, birth date, gender, email-id, address, etc. Fill in all the details properly and click on the option “NEXT”
In the next step, you need to create your username and password. You will also need to answer a security question for safety purposes. After filling, click on next.
In the next step, you need to re-check all the information you have entered and click on submit. Your GRE account will be created.
Once your account is created, log in with your email ID & password. You will be directed to the page below. Click on “Register/find test centers, date”
Select your test type from the drop-down box. Then you will find the options for test center and test date. Choose as per your convenience. And register for your GRE.
Once you have opted for your choice of test date and exam center you would be redirected to the exam payment gateway page. You would be required to pay the GRE test fee. You should be careful to check the details of the examination here. Once the payment is made, changes made hereafter would incur a fee.
Once the fee is paid, you can take a printout of the acknowledgment receipt. You would also have access to the same on the dashboard of your accounts.

Mail GRE Registration
Download/print and fill the application form. Send it to the address along with the required fee. The form must be received at least 3 weeks before your preferred test date. The details including your confirmation number, the address of the test center, and reporting time will be sent to you by mail.
Phone GRE Registration
For GRE registration, you need to call the Regional Registration Center (RRC). The call must be made minimum 2 workings before your GRE test date. On the call itself, all the details regarding the confirmation number, reporting time, and the test center address will be provided to you.
GRE Registration for Subject Test
GRE Subject Tests are only available offline which means on paper and pencil. It is conducted 3 times per year. The availability of test centers for paper and pen test is limited. So registration is open only at specific times of the year. For GRE registration of a Subject Test,
Visit your My GRE homepage and click on the option “Register for a Subject Test”.
After confirming your personal details, you will be able to check if there is any seats available. If you find registration available, then you will have to select the subject test you want to appear for.
You can then find an available seat by either searching for the test center or test date.
Then follow the steps same as the general GRE Registration.
