The SAT is an entrance exam given for students to get admission to the colleges or universities abroad of their choice or well-known in the world. The SAT is conducted by the College Board. Your SAT score is a crucial factor for admissions to colleges in other countries. Here is everything you need to know about the registration for SAT.

SAT Registration

SAT registration is a straightforward process. Most high school students register for SAT during the spring of their junior year or fall of their senior year. The SAT exam is conducted every year nationally in August, October, November, December, March, May, and June. The SAT registration deadline falls around 5 weeks before the designated test date. Here are the steps to proceed with your SAT registration.

Process of SAT Registration

There are two methods for SAT Registration. They are:

  1. SAT Registration Online
  2. SAT Registration by Mail

The above types of registration are mentioned in detail below:

SAT Registration Online

Online registration for SAT includes 4 stages – creating a student’s profile; filling out the application form; booking the test date and test center; paying the necessary fee.

  • Step 1:  You need to create a student account on the College Board's official website. Visit the website: and create your account.
  • Step 2:  Once you successfully create your College Board account, fill in your personal details. Mention your full name and other identifying information carefully. Make sure that the name and other details are the same as your ID.
  • Step 3: In this step, you need to fill in your details about high school. Academic details like results and grades, extra-curricular activities, and college-level details need to be filled in.
  • Step 4: Choose the test date and test center convenient for you.
  • Step 5:  Here you have to upload your recent picture. Make sure to upload a clear and distinct photo, in which your face is clearly visible as the photo will be used for verification purposes at the test venue.
  • Step 6: Next you have to pay the SAT fee. Before doing payment carefully review the information provided, and make changes if required.

SAT Registration by Mail

You need to register by mail if one is:

  • Requesting testing closer to home.
  • Requesting for Sunday testing time.
  • Paying the fee by cheque or money order.
  • Younger than 13 years old.
  • Not able to upload a digital picture in the process of online SAT registration.
  • Registering through an SAT international representative.

The steps you need to follow for SAT Registration by mail are mentioned below:

  • You will need to take ‘The Student Registration Guide for the SAT and SAT Subject Tests”, easily available at the schools.
  • This guide will have the form of Registration and a return envelope.
  • You must attach your recent photo with your paper Registration form. This photo will become part of your  SAT Admission Ticket, and test center staff will use it for verification by comparing it to your photo ID to ensure security on test day
  • After filling out the registration form, it should be returned with a DD (demand draft)
  • Mailed forms are directed to a regional office.

SAT Registration's last date falls 4 to 5 weeks before the test date. As soon as you know that you want to take the test, try to sign up the earliest. If you wait until the last minute for registration, there may not be any seats available in the testing centers near your location. It is better to leave some time to retake the test if you, unfortunately, don’t score the needed to get admission to the college.  So it is recommended to wake up early, register for SAT, and start preparing for it.
